FamilyShine

Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 August 2026

Only what the service needs to work. No advertising, no tracking, nothing sold.

Who we are

FamilyShine is operated by SolveWell Technologies LLC, 4030 Wake Forest Road, Ste 349, Raleigh, NC 27609, United States. For anything in this policy, contact privacy@solvewelltech.com.

We are responsible for the information described below. FamilyShine is operated from the United States.

What FamilyShine is for

FamilyShine helps a family share household responsibilities and recognise each other for them. A parent creates a household, adds family members, and records chores, tasks and self-care habits. The core action is a parent naming something they noticed — “you were patient” — which is stored and shown back to that family member over time.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you create an account and set up a household, you provide account details such as your name, email address, password and date of birth, together with information about your household and its members. You may choose to provide additional profile details.

Information you create using the service

As you use FamilyShine you create content — the chores, tasks and habits you set up, records of what has been completed and approved, the recognitions you send, any notes or images you attach to them, and any allowance amounts you record. We store this content so the service can show it back to your household.

Information we collect automatically

We collect the technical information needed to operate and secure the service: session and authentication data that keeps you signed in, information about devices a parent has linked to the household so they can be reviewed and revoked, and standard server logs such as IP addresses and timestamps.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t show advertising, and we use no advertising identifiers or ad networks
  • We use no third-party analytics or tracking software
  • We don’t collect location data, contacts, calendars or audio
  • We don’t sell or rent personal information — to anyone, ever

Children’s information

This is the part we take most seriously.

Children appear in FamilyShine in one of two ways, and both begin with a parent:

For a managed child profile, the parent provides the information and consents on the child’s behalf, and can view, correct or delete it at any time from within the app. We collect from a child only what the service needs to work for them — the profile details a parent enters, and the chores and recognitions that make up their experience.

We do not show children advertising, do not profile them, and do not disclose their information to anyone outside their own household.

Parents are in control (COPPA)

FamilyShine is a family service, and a child’s information only ever enters it because a parent put it there. We rely on that parent’s consent, given from their own signed-in account, and we collect from a child only what the service needs to work for them.

As a parent you may at any time:

We never require a child to disclose more than is reasonably necessary to take part. If you believe we hold information about a child without a parent’s consent, email us at privacy@solvewelltech.com and we will delete it.

How we use your information

Only to run the service: to authenticate you, keep a household’s records in sync across the family’s devices, show each member their own activity and recognitions, let a parent manage children’s devices, and send essential account emails such as verification and password reset. We also use it to keep the service secure and to diagnose faults.

We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Who we share it with

With other members of your household — which is the point of the app. Recognitions, chores and contributions are visible to the family, subject to the visibility settings the app provides (self-care habits, for example, can be kept private).

With service providers who process data on our behalf, under contract and only for these purposes:

ProviderPurpose
Amazon Web ServicesHosting the application and database
Amazon SESSending account emails (verification, password reset)
AppleTestFlight distribution during the beta

That is the complete list. We share personal information with no one else, except where the law requires it.

Where your information is stored

Your information is stored and processed on servers operated by Amazon Web Services. We are a United States company, and your information may be stored and processed in the United States or in the European Union. Wherever it sits, it is protected the same way and handled under this policy.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, or a parent deletes a child’s profile, we delete the associated personal information from our live systems. Backups are retained for a limited period for disaster recovery and are overwritten on a rolling basis.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Depending on where you live, your state may give you additional rights — such as the right to know what is collected, to have it deleted, or to opt out of its sale or sharing (we do neither). We will not treat you differently for exercising any of them. Where a child’s information is held in a managed profile, the parent exercises these rights on the child’s behalf.

You can do the most important ones directly in the app:

For anything else, email privacy@solvewelltech.com and we will respond within 45 days. If you believe we have handled your information improperly, you may also contact your state attorney general or the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.

How we protect it

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as salted hashes. On your phone, your sign-in token is held in the device’s secure storage — the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore — not in ordinary app storage. Access to production systems is restricted and audited.

No system is perfectly secure, but we design so that a lost device or an intercepted connection does not expose your family’s information.

Beta testing

During the beta, FamilyShine is distributed through Apple TestFlight to a small number of invited families. Apple provides us with limited information about testers and crash reports; Apple’s own privacy policy governs their handling of that data.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and we will tell you in the app before any change that materially affects how we handle your information.
